Still got it! Ex-Chelsea & Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech makes 62 saves in one ice hockey match to earn MOTM award

The 43-year-old is continuing to scratch his competitive sporting itch after swapping the football pitch for the ice rink. Cech – who left his role as technical director at Chelsea in June 2022 – still lives in England and is turning out for local ice hockey side, Oxford City Stars.

Unsurprisingly, he fills the role of goaltender – as a Premier League, Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup-winning keeper in the world of football – and his reflexes remain as sharp as ever. Cech proved as much when repelling 62 of the 64 efforts he faced when helping Oxford to a 3-2 win over NIHL Division 1 South champions Streatham Red Hawks.

After being bombarded over the course of that contest, Cech’s efforts were rightly recognised with Man of the Match honours. The former Czech Republic international linked up with Oxford in July and said at the time: “I’ve heard good things about the club and looking forward to playing again with some of my ex-team-mates. It’s clear Oxford have big ambitions and I hope I can help them with those.”

Cech previously turned out for Guildford Phoenix between 2019 and 2023 and has trained with NHL franchise the Chicago Blackhawks in the past. He hung up his gloves in football terms back in 2019 having spent 15 memorable years in the Premier League with London giants Chelsea and Arsenal.
