Sandro Tonali to leave Newcastle? Juventus prepare to send Douglas Luiz back to Premier League as part of deal to seal Italy star's Serie A return

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Newcastle star Tonali is Juventus' main priority as they look to recruit a new central midfielder in the summer transfer window. The Italy international has enjoyed a fine season after bouncing back from his gambling ban last term, forming part of a formidable Magpies midfield alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.

The report adds that Luiz, who signed for Juve last year from Aston Villa, is being considered as a potential make-weight for the deal. The Brazil international has struggled to settle in Turin, with a string of injuries not helping, and has been linked with a return to the Premier League, where he previously scored 20 goals and contributed 18 assists.

Tonali has plenty of previous experience in Serie A, having started his senior career at Brescia before joining AC Milan in 2021. The 25-year-old won the league title with the Rossoneri before joining Newcastle for a reported fee of £60 million ($76m).

Both Juventus and Tonali's Newcastle are hopeful of securing Champions League qualification in the final few weeks of the domestic season. Juve sit fourth in Serie A but are embroiled in an extremely tight battle alongside Roma, Lazio and Bologna, while Newcastle are fourth in the Premier League and take on fifth-placed Chelsea on Sunday.
