Sandro Tonali keen to stay and repay Newcastle faith for backing over gambling ban despite Man City and Juventus links

Tonali wants to stay at Newcastle for years to come after being supported through his ten-month gambling ban last season. The Italy international has been in sensation form since returning to Eddie Howe's team, putting in powerful midfield performances as the Magpies charge towards Champions League qualification, and The Telegraph claim he has little interest in leaving for linked clubs like Juventus and Manchester City.

Newcastle are eager to keep their strong core of players together over the summer, having put an ordinary start to the season behind them to charge up the Premier League table. Tonali is one player who has been linked with a move away, while there is also said to be interest in the likes of Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon.

Newcastle are free of any Profit and Sustainability Rules restrictions this summer, having sold Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly during the January transfer window, and the report adds that a right-sided centre-back, goalkeeper and right winger are expected to be targeted over the coming months.

Having secured the Carabao Cup last month, Tonali and Newcastle will now look to seal Champions League qualification in the final handful of matches in the 2024-25 season. Their next outing is a trip down south to face Brighton on Sunday.
