    WHAT HAPPENED?

United have been looking to improve their midfield options for new boss Ruben Amorim and have reportedly earmarked Southampton teenager Dibling as a potential signing for the future. Reports have suggested that the Red Devils are preparing a bid worth £21m ($26.5m).

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Dibling has been the lone shining star in a dark night's sky for Southampton so far as the Saints have failed to impress on their return to the Premier League. The 18-year-old has made an appearance in all but one of Southampton's Premier League clashes and has been highly rated by clubs across England's top-flight. Saint's boss Martin has now laughed off United's reported bid.

    WHAT MARTIN SAID

Asked about the reported bid, Martin told reporters: “I’m not sure you’ll get his left foot for that."

Martin then opened up on Dibling's contract renewal: "We have offered him a contract, a really good contract for someone his age. At the minute, I don’t think his agent agrees, so that’s where we’re at. I think Tyler wants it done, I think Tyler’s parents want it done, so we’ll see how long that takes. There is an option. We can extend. I don’t think we want to do that – we want to reward Tyler for his performances. I’ve spoken to Tyler’s mum and dad about it, I’ve spoken to Tyler, but then I’m not involved in any of the negotiations – that’s down to Phil [Parsons, chief executive] and the gang, the owners and Tyler’s agent – and that’s where it gets tricky."

  • WHAT NEXT FOR DIBLING?

Southampton have only gained one win in the Premier League so far this season and Dibling will likely start when the Saints host Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
