    WHAT HAPPENED?

Manchester City's nightmare journey in the 2024-25 campaign continued as they crashed out of the Champions League after losing 6-3 on aggregate to Real Madrid. City went into the second leg in Madrid after losing 3-2 at home last weekend. Mbappe struck early to make the situation worse for the English champions and then scored two more goals to dump them out of Europe. Nico Gonzalez pulled one back for the visitors in the 92nd minute.

During the game, the home fans at Santiago Bernabeu were heard trolling Pep Guardiola as they chanted in unison, "Guardiola, stay." This was the third time in the last four editions of the competition that Guardiola's City faced elimination after losing against Los Blancos in a two-legged tie.

The Cityzens's only realistic chance of silverware now looks to be in the FA Cup where they have reached the fifth round. In the Premier League, they are 17 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool and will now fight to finish among the top four teams to stand a chance of competing in the Champions League next season.
