Mia Fishel gives major update on ACL injury as she thanks Chelsea & USWNT for sticking by her at 'critical time'

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The 22-year-old took to social media to reveal that she has undergone successful surgery on the anterior cruciate knee ligament injury she suffered in February. She also thanked her club and the USWNT for their constant support during a difficult period.

  • WHAT MIA FISHEL SAID

    Taking to X, Fishel posted a photograph of herself on crutches with her right knee heavily bandaged. She wrote: "I’d like to thank my management and medical teams for a successful surgery today. I want to thank @USWNT and @ChelseaFCW for their unwavering support during this critical time. Exciting projects for 2024 are on the way and I look forward to sharing a more personal side of Mia."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Fishel, who joined the Blues from Mexican side Tigres in August 2023, appeared in 10 Women's Super League games and scored once for Chelsea in the first half of the season, but picked up a serious injury while away with the USWNT in their pre-Gold Cup camp in February. Her first and only WSL goal to date came in her debut match in October, where Chelsea registered a 2-1 win over Tottenham.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHELSEA?

    Fishel is not expected to return to action this season, with Emma Hayes' Chelsea side currently leading the WSL title race on goal difference ahead of Manchester City. They will next be seen in action on Saturday as they face Arsenal in another vital league clash.
