<p>Lionel Messi was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Matchday following his exceptional performance in Inter Miami's dominant 5-1 victory over Columbus Crew.</p><p>The 37-year-old Argentine scored twice in the match, becoming Inter Miami's all-time leading MLS goal scorer in the process. Messi's brilliance was on full display as he orchestrated Miami's attack, including providing a quick free kick assist to Tadeo Allende for the opening goal.</p>

His eight Player of the Matchday awards - six in 2024 and now two in 2025 - placing him among the most decorated players in MLS history.</p><p>Messi joins Carlos Vela and Josef Martínez as the only players to win Player of the Matchday six times in their first full MLS season.</p>

<p>Lionel Messi will depart to represent Argentina in World Cup qualifiers against Chile on June 5 and Colombia on June 10. Inter Miami will prepare for their first games in the Club World Cup as they face Al Ahly on June 14.</p>
