Wirtz took to social media and shared an image of himself signing autographs for fans, and in the caption, he used the signature emoji, which further fuelled the rumours of him signing for the Reds soon. The Premier League giants remain firm favourites to sign Bayer Leverkusen star.

The Athletic reported earlier this week that Liverpool are preparing a massive €130m (£109m/$147m) offer for Wirtz after seeing their first approach for the highly-rated Germany international knocked back by the former Bundesliga champions. Arne Slot is determined to sign the 22-year-old as the Dutchman looks to further bolster his squad after winning the league title in his maiden season.

Wirtz had been linked with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, while Manchester City have also been credited with interest, but the midfielder, who has already visited the north west of England, is said to have made it clear that a switch to Anfield would be his preference.

The Merseyside club have already secured the signing of Jeremie Frimpong to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold in the right-back. Now their priority is to finalise Wirtz's signature and also try and sign a new striker.
