I-League 2017-18: Sankarlal clueless as Bagan go down to Minerva at home

Minerva Punjab FC shocked Mohun Bagan on Wednesday as Bhutanese sensation Chencho Gyeltshen scored twice in the first half to give his side the full three points.

Newly appointed head coach Sankarlal Chakraborty looked far from confident and even acknowledged that he is unsure whether Mohun Bagan can bounce back to go on and win the league.

"[We] Haven't played worse than this. [I] Can't tell if we can win the league," said Chakraborty.

The former assistant to Sanjoy Sen identified that the primary problem was being blunt in front of the goal and suggested that the penalty miss was the turning point in this match.

"The problem is not in midfield. The problem is we are not getting goals. The midfield is supplying balls. Dipanda tried within his limits. Even Naro Hari did but we simply weren't able to convert."

Minerva Punjab FC coach Khogen Singh was expectedly ecstatic after the win at the Salt Lake Stadium.

"It's an achievement. Football depends on mind games as I said earlier. Home or away doesn't matter. Boys were mentally strong and motivated."

"Never thought that we would get two early goals. Our plan was a success. They opened their backline after the two goals and we got a lot of chances on the counter-attack," expressed Singh with joy.

He commented that without Sony Norde, Bagan's attack was not up to the mark.

But he signed off with a piece of disturbing news for Minerva fans when he informed that Chencho has suffered a groin injury.

Minerva Punjab will now take on Shillong Lajong away from home on January 14, 2018.
