Atletico Madrid's season has not lived up to the early hype they had created as the Rojiblancos are set to go another year without winning a major trophy. After having surprised fans with their offensive showings earlier in the season following Julian Alvarez's arrival at the Metropolitano, their campaign has tailed off somewhat.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Through the middle and latter parts of the season, Atletico Madrid's attacking options have faltered due to their lack of squad options. As such, Spanish publication AS has reported that Simeone's side are considering signing Nunez from Liverpool this summer in a bid to strengthen for next season, with Angel Correa likely to leave the club after the Club World Cup.
Liverpool could also be open to letting Nunez leave this summer as they may be keen on recouping the €75 million (£63m/$86m) that they shelled out for his transfer from Benfica in 2022. As per the report, Liverpool could be open to selling the Uruguayan for a fee around €45m (£38m/$51m).
