Timo Werner's heading to Tottenham! RB Leipzig confirm ex-Chelsea forward is in talks over shock Spurs loan move

Werner is set to return to London in the white of Spurs, two years after leaving rivals Chelsea. The German striker will join Spurs on a simple loan until the end of the season having struggled for game time for Leipzig this season.

Leipzig confirmed Werner was absent for their friendly with Swiss side St. Gallen due to his imminent loan switch to London. The side tweeted: "Timo Werner is not in the squad for today's friendly, as he is in talks with another club."

Werner, linked for weeks with a return to the Premier League, will join his former club's rivals, Spurs. The German forward will offer his new boss Ange Postecoglou another much-needed option up-front with captain Son Heung-min set to miss a number of weeks due to international commitments at the 2023 Asian Cup. Werner will hope he can perform better in north London than he did in his two years in the west of the capital, though, having posted just 23 goals in 89 appearances for the Blues.

The loan move is still subject to completion, but Werner will hope to make his Premier League return against Manchester United next weekend - a side he had been linked with in recent weeks.
