Shock swap deal mooted between bitter rivals Chelsea and Spurs as Ange Postecoglou eyes Conor Gallagher swoop

According to Sky Sports, the Lilly-whites are eager to reinforce their midfield in January and have shortlisted the English player for the role. The potential deal was in the works during the summer, but Chelsea held off due to Gallagher's impressive performances and limited alternatives in the market.

Gallagher, who has continued to shine under manager Mauricio Pochettino, is nearing the final 18 months of his contract and Chelsea are ready to offload him for a new face who would add more steel at the centre of the park. Spurs are willing to offer Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, an out-of-favour midfielder, which has raised the possibility of a swap deal with Gallagher.

Recent reports suggest Juventus are also eyeing Hojbjerg. However, Chelsea's interest in Hojbjerg remains uncertain, but they are reportedly exploring defensive midfield options in case Gallagher departs which could lead them to accept the swap deal with the Danish midfielder.

Mauricio Pochettino has urged the club to leverage the January market to "change the dynamic" following a somewhat inconsistent Premier League campaign, leaving Spurs in the 10th position after 17 games. They will face Wolves next on Sunday at the Molineux, whereas, Spurs will host Everton on Saturday.
