Real Madrid turn to ChatGPT for inspiration ahead of do-or-die Arsenal Champions League clash as fans laugh at 'cringe' social post & claim they're clearly 'rattled'

Real Madrid turned to ChatGPT for inspiration as they looked to send a message to Arsenal ahead of their do-or-die Champions League quarter-final second leg on Wednesday. Madrid trail 3-0 from the first leg in north London and, as Los Blancos seek to overturn that deficit, they posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) in which ChatGPT was asked to translate ‘Noventa minuti en el Bernabeu son molto longo’ (Ninety minutes at the Bernabeu are very long) into a host of different languages.

Fans were quick to ridicule Madrid for the post.

Arsenal fan ‘Rory Talks Ball’ responded: “It’s actually cringe at this point.”

Madrid fan ‘Drilleh’ agreed: “This is becoming cringe… if we don’t win.”

‘The Nomad Post’ added: “I can’t believe we got the mighty Real Madrid this rattled.”

‘The Footy Guru’ pointed to a recent defeat for Madrid, writing: “Wasn't very long for 13th-placed Valencia.”

Benjamin Fernandes expressed excitement at the prospect of returning to Madrid’s post after the full-time whistle, writing: “Bro, I can’t wait to come back to this tweet once you take your L tonight.”

Madrid have developed a fearsome reputation for claiming unlikely victories in the Champions League and producing stirring fightbacks at the Bernabeu, with their post clearly a reference to some of the turnarounds they have delivered in years past. Still, history is against them. Forty-seven teams have lost the first leg of a Champions League tie by at least three goals. Only four — Deportivo La Coruna v AC Milan in 2004, Barcelona v Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, Roma v Barcelona in 2018 and Liverpool v Barcelona in 2019 — have gone on to progress.

While the prospect of Declan Rice netting two long-range free-kicks in the same game again is an unlikely one, Madrid must balance the aggression they will need to pull off a fightback with defensive solidity. Carlo Ancelotti’s men have been far too vulnerable at the back of late, with their clean sheet against Alaves last weekend ending a run of nine games without one. If they don’t improve at the back, the 90 minutes at the Bernabeu for Arsenal will be joyous. Defeat will surely prompt further questions about Ancelotti's future.
