GOAL offers our predictions for this week's game below.

  • Aston Villa v Newcastle United - Premier LeagueGetty Images Sport

    SATURDAY GAMES

PREMIER LEAGUE: ASTON VILLA 2, BRENTFORD 0

GOAL verdict: Villa drew Newcastle 0-0 in their opening match of the season, while Brentford had a rude welcome with a 3-1 battering at the hands of Nottingham Forest. Villa should get their season going against a Brentford side that will struggle. They lost manager Thomas Frank, top scorer Bryan Mbeumo, captain Christian Norgaard, and goalkeeper Mark Flekken - it's hard to see them getting a result.

PREMIER LEAGUE: SUNDERLAND 2,  BURNLEY 0

GOAL verdict: Sunderland looks set to be the surprise of the Premier League season. One of the highest-spending clubs in England this summer, they've created a roster that will be able to compete. After their stunning 3-0 win over West Ham and Burnley's 3-0 loss to Tottenham, the Black Cats are the favorites here. The Clarets do boast a stout defense, but Sunderland takes it.

    SERIE A: ROMA 1, BOLOGNA 1

GOAL verdict: Bologna lost star winger Dan N'Doye to Forest, but are nearly the same squad that lifted the Coppa Italia last spring. Roma, meanwhile, has made a few impressive additions that should pan out as the season progresses, including bringing in Brighton forward Evan Ferguson on loan. Still, it's too early to expect the chemistry to be in place. This one has a low-scoring draw written all over it.

NWSL:  WASHINGTON SPIRIT 2, BAY FC 1

GOAL verdict: Bay FC are winless in five, and are slowly falling out of the playoff picture. The Spirit, however, have drawn three of their last four. Neither team has looked particularly great in recent weeks, but with U.S. international Trinity Rodman back and fit for the Spirit, their odds are boosted. This one goes to the Spirit.

MLS: CF MONTREAL 1, AUSTIN FC 1

GOAL verdict: Austin are the lowest-scoring team in the West with 24 goals, and CF MTL are the second-lowest in the East with 25. Where they differ, though, is that MTL has conceded 17 more goals than Verde this season. In recent weeks, the Canadian side has started to look more cohesive. Austin hasn't shown much life this summer, so a low-scoring draw seems appropriate.

    MLS: INTER MIAMI 5, D.C. UNITED 0

GOAL verdict: Lionel Messi is back to health, and D.C. United might be the worst team in the league at the moment. This has a lopsided scoreline written all over it - and the Argentine should feast. Hard to picture D.C. having even the smallest of looks here.

  • Como v Ajax - Como Cup FinalGetty Images Sport

    SUNDAY GAMES

PREMIER LEAGUE: EVERTON 1, BRIGHTON 1

GOAL verdict: Neither the Seagulls nor the Toffees particularly impressed in their opening matches. Brighton settled for a point in a lackluster draw vs. Fulham, with a strike from the penalty spot, while Everton looked all out of sorts in a 1-0 loss to Leeds. Jack Grealish could earn his first start for David Moyes's side. Brighton, meanwhile, will know they'll need a better performance. Expect a low-scoring draw.

    SERIE A: COMO 2, LAZIO 2

GOAL verdict: Potential match of the week. Cesc Fabregas's Como have made some brilliant transfer moves over the past year, and now Alvaro Morata has joined their ranks. Lazio remain one of Serie A's elites. On what will be opening day for the league, this one has all of the traits for a high-scoring thriller, fueled by veteran excellence from both sides. Call it a 2-2 draw.
