The club may have spent £75 million to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton, but Rashford issued manager Jose Mourinho with a timely reminder of his abilities against Manchester City on Thursday evening.

In a pre-season friendly played in Houston, the 19-year-old collected a fine pass from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and finished coolly from just inside the penalty area, making it 2-0 on the night.

Lukaku opened the scoring earlier in the evening with an equally impressive finish, suggesting that the two could form a fearsome strike partnership in 2017-18.
