“I love Dubai, it’s one of my favourite destinations. Every time I come here I always bump into Liverpool fans, so it’s been great to spend some time with them today. I think the region overall is doing a great job in growing football and I will give the same message I give to kids all over the world - just keep practicing and work as hard as you can, because you get out of this game what you put in,” he said at the adidas event.
With the 2022 World Cup in Qatar set to be played in the winter, Gerrard backed the country with the highest per capita income to put on a good show.
“I’ve got every confidence that Qatar will put on a great event, you can feel the passion and excitement every time you come to the region. Everyone is football crazy. Good luck to them and I hope they put a good show on,” he mentioned.
Fans couldn’t hide their excitement and 12-year-old Oman, who is a Liverpool fan, shared his feelings on having had the chance to meet his idol.
“Liverpool was the first team I supported, Gerrard was the captain and, for me, he was the best player on the team. I’m a midfielder myself so he is a player I really look up to. It’s been an amazing experience meeting him today,” he said.
