Premier League Betting: Manchester City still runaway title favourites despite Chelsea defeat

Manchester City remain heavy favourites to win the Premier League despite suffering their first defeat of the season at Chelsea on Saturday evening.

The champions went down 2-0 at Chelsea thanks to goals from unlikely sources in N’Golo Kante and David Luiz, leaving City in second place behind Liverpool.

They trail the Reds by just a point, though, and bet365 still make Pep Guardiola’s men just 4/11 (1.36) - lengthening slightly from 1/3 (1.33) - to make it back-to-back titles come May.

City’s defeat at Stamford Bridge means they have now played four of the other five teams in the ‘Big Six’ away from home, earning seven points from those games, and face a relatively kind run into the new year.

Indeed, two home fixtures against Everton and Crystal Palace followed by consecutive away matches at Leicester and Southampton, before they welcome Liverpool to the Etihad Stadium on January 3.

That could be a pivotal clash in the race for the title and a win for either team would almost certainly give them the upper hand in the second half of the season.

Liverpool are currently top of the league by one point following a 4-0 drubbing of Bournemouth and remain City’s only discernible rivals, at least according to the bookmakers, at 5/2 (3.50).

Jurgen Klopp’s men have now won 13 and drawn three of their 16 games so far, including 1-1 stalemates at Chelsea and Arsenal, as well as a 0-0 at home to the Citizens.

In contrast to City, the Reds have a tough Christmas period with Manchester United and the Gunners both visiting Anfield before that trip to Eastlands in January.

Tottenham are six points off the top of the table but are out at 33/1 (34.0), ahead of fourth-placed Chelsea at 66/1 (67.0) and 80/1 (81.0) Arsenal. Jose Mourinho's Red Devils are 500/1 (501.0).
