Premier League Betting: Leicester still odds-on for top four despite loss as Liverpool close gap

The race for a coveted spot in the Premier League’s top four took another series of twists at the weekend as Leicester City and West Ham allowed the chasing pack to make up some ground.

Friday night saw Newcastle United stun the Foxes 4-2 before Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton all won their respective games – with the Toffees beating the Hammers.

Chelsea came from behind to take three points against champions-elect Manchester City and delay their coronation, and the Blues are now just 1/14 (1.07) to finish in the top four.

Although trailing Thomas Tuchel’s men by just a single point, Leicester still face a battle and are 4/5 (1.80) to qualify for next term’s Champions League - having been 2/7 (1.28) prior to their defeat against the Magpies.

Indeed, Brendan Rodgers’ men have been in the top four all season but are in danger of dropping out when it counts as Manchester United, Chelsea and Spurs make up the opposition for their final three fixtures.

Memories of the implosion last summer will still be haunting the minds of the King Power faithful, when the side won only four of their last 17 to surrender the 14-point lead they held over fifth on New Year’s Day.

Reigning champions Liverpool will be hoping to take advantage of any more slip-ups by the Foxes and bet365 make it Evens (2.0) that they sneak in to steal a top-four spot, albeit they remain six points behind with a game in hand.

The Reds have been nothing short of dismal for most of the second half of the campaign but four wins and two draws in their last six has brought them back into the fold, and they will certainly be looking to take maximum points from their matches against West Brom, Burnley and Crystal Palace.

West Ham have undoubtedly been the surprise package of this season after only narrowly escaping relegation last term, but the damaging 1-0 loss at home to Everton on Sunday forced bet365 to push them out to 14/1 (15.0).

David Moyes’ men have now lost three of their last four in the Premier League and are five points behind Leicester, although their price may still prove popular considering they have a favourable run-in against Brighton, West Brom and Southampton.

Spurs trail fourth by seven points and are out at 28/1 (29.0) - needing a miracle to qualify - whilst the Toffees have a deficit of eight points and are out at 40/1 (41.0)
