Maradona signs on with Dynamo Brest as chairman of the board

Diego Maradona has found a new home.

The 57-year-old Argentina legend signed a three-year contract on Tuesday to be the chairman of the board for Belarusian outfit Dynamo Brest, with the club confirming the move.

Maradona, who most recently managed UAE second-division side Fujairah, will be taking over football operations.

Brest are looking to challenge the dominance of BATE Borisov, winners of the last 12 league titles, and will be hoping Maradona can work some magic in helping the club to the top of the table.

“Yes, Diego is with us,” the club tweeted. “Legendary football player Diego Armando Maradona signed a three-year contract with the football club, Dynamo Brest, and took office as chairman of the club’s board.

“Diego Maradona will be engaged in issues of strategic development of the club, as well as interacting with all its structural units – including the children’s academy.

But, while Maradona has legendary status as a player, his record in management positions leaves something to be desired.

With Fujairah he left the club after failing to secure promotion to the UAE's top flight in April.

Maradona will begin his new job after the conclusion of the 2018 World Cup, according to the club, who won the Belarusian Super Cup with a 2-1 victory over BATE in March.
