Chivas defender headed to Portland


Chivas defender Josecarlos Van Rankin is set to join the Portland Timbers on loan, reports ESPN.

The fullback has been training with the Chivas first team in recent days, although he is not registered to play, as he eyes a move that is expected to be made official in the near future.

Galaxy re-sign Klinsmann


The LA Galaxy have re-signed goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann, the club confirmed.

Klinsmann, the son of German legend Jurgen, joined the club last summer from St. Gallen in the Swiss Super League.

He made four starts during his first MLS campaign with the team.

“Jonathan is a talented player who gained valuable experience with our team last season,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te K"loese. “We are pleased to further strengthen our goalkeeper position and we look forward to his continued growth as an LA Galaxy player."

Meyer leaves Palace


Max Meyer has left Crystal Palace as the two parties part ways by mutual consent, the club confirmed.

Meyer made 56 appearances for the club, scoring twice, having joined the team in 2018.

Senegal starlet set to sign with Feyenoord


Senegalese youngster Aliou Balde has chosen to sign with Feyenoord, according to De Telegraaf.

The 18-year-old  starlet was expected to sign with Borussia Dortmund, only for Feyenoord to jump ahead of them to capture his signature.

Balde, a right-winger, has been tracked by clubs in France and Germany for several months. 

Celtic winger in talks with New York Red Bulls


Celtic winger Cameron Harper is in talks with MLS side New York Red Bulls, The Athletic reports.

The 19-year-old has made one Premiership appearance for the Scottish side this season.

Celtic have offered him a contract extension but he could be on his way to the United States.

Esposito returns to Inter


Sebastiano Esposito has returned to Inter after SPAL terminated his loan deal.

The attacker made 10 Serie B appearances for the club but has been sent back to the San Siro outfit early.

Marseille in talks to sign Milik


Arkadiusz Milik is edging closer to a January exit from Napoli, Goal can reveal.

Marseille who jumped to the front of the queue ahead of Juventus and Atletico Madrid, with Andre Villas-Boas last week confirming their interest in him.

The French side have made an offer worth €8m (£7m/$10m) plus bonuses, though they are also exploring a two-year loan deal, which would mean Milik would have to sign a 12-month extension with Napoli.

Schalke keen on Rafinha


Schalke are aiming to sign veteran right-back Rafinha from Olimpiacos, reports Bild

The longtime Bayern Munich defender signed for Flamengo in 2019 but quickly returned to Europe with the Greek side last year. 

Rafinha, who played at Schalke from 2005 to 2010, could join the already-signed Sead Kolasinac and Ajax forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as former Schalke stars who come back to aid the club's relegation battle. 

Neto asks to leave Barcelona in January


Neto has asked Barcelona to let him leave the club this month, reports Sport.

The goalkeeper arrived at the club in the summer of 2019 but has made just 14 appearances for Barca while backing up Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Should Neto leave, Inaki Pena would be set to become Ter Stegen's backup.

Swansea in talks over Morris loan


Swansea City are in talks over a six-month loan move for Seattle Sounders star Jordan Morris, according to The Telegraph.

The USMNT forward has also been in discussions with Bundesliga clubs but could be headed to Wales to help the Swans' promotion push.

Man Utd to battle Chelsea for Rice


The 22-year-old is in high demand

Manchester United will battle Chelsea for Declan Rice in the summer, according to ESPN.

The Blues have coveted Rice for some time after the midfielder came up through their academy before being released at age 14 and joining West Ham.

But United are also prepared to move for the England international, who could cost up to £70 million ($95m).

Drinkwater set for Kasimpasa loan


Danny Drinkwater is in Istanbul to complete a loan move to Turkish Super Lig club Kasimpasa - and Chelsea will subsidise his salary to help complete the deal.

The 30-year-old has spent several months in the Blues' Under-23s squad after failing to find a move in the summer.

The £35 million ($47m) signing from Leicester will now look to rehabilitate his career, having played just seven senior games in the last two and a half seasons.

Mauricio Pochettino is Paris Saint-Germain highest-paid coach ever following his decision to take the job with the Ligue 1 champions, L'Equipe reports.

The former Tottenham boss, who took over in Paris following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel, is reportedly earning €940k per month, before tax.

The Argentine claimed his first trophy in charge of the French club following their 2-1 Trophee des Champions final win over Marseille on Wednesday.

Guardiola hopeful Garcia doesn't join Barcelona in January


Pep Guardiola is hopeful of retaining centre-back Eric Garcia, at least until the end of the season, despite strong interest from Barcelona.

As reported by Goal, the Catalan giants have agreed personal terms with the defender, with Barca understood to be only willing to offer €5 million to seal a deal in the winter window.

Quizzed about Garcia's future and whether he'll be signing for Barca, Guardiola told reporters on Friday: "I hope not, but maybe in Barcelona they know more than me.

"I don’t know what’s going to happen, but maybe it will. I can’t say more."

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is planning on holding contract talks with AC Milan that could see him stay on at San Siro beyond his 40th birthday.

The Swede told Corriere dello Sport: "I’ll continue playing as long as I feel well. Then we’ll see, we’ll talk about my contract.

"I didn’t want to put myself in a trap with no way out, that’s why I initially signed a six-month contract which I renewed afterwards. Others made different choices.

"I don’t want to talk about how many games I’ve played, it makes me feel old. My challenge is to develop a young team now, it’s something different from what I used to do. But being successful in it makes me feel happier than when I win."

Rams appoint Man Utd legend on permanent basis

Derby County have confirmed they have appointed Wayne Rooney as their permanent manager on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

The Manchester United legend, who had been in temporary charge at Pride Park, told the club's official website following the announcement: "When I first arrived back in the United Kingdom I was completely blown away by the potential of Derby County Football Club.

"The Stadium, training ground, the quality of the playing staff and the young players coming through and of course the fan base that has remained loyal and supportive.

"Despite other offers I knew instinctively Derby County was the place for me.

"To be given the opportunity to follow the likes of Brian Clough, Jim Smith, Frank Lampard and Phillip Cocu is such an honour and I can promise everyone in involved in the club and all our fans, my staff and I will leave no stone unturned in achieving the potential I have witnessed over the last 12 months of this historic football club."

Everton signed James Rodriguez on a free transfer


James Rodriguez joined Everton on a free transfer from Real Madrid, director of football Marcel Brands has confirmed.

The Colombia international midfielder was the marquee signing for the Toffees last summer, ending his largely unsuccessful stint at Santiago Bernabeu and moving to Goodison Park in an eye-catching deal for Carlo Ancelotti's team.

It was widely reported at the time that Everton had to fork out a significant transfer fee for James, however Brands, in delivering his annual presentation at the general meeting of the shareholders on Thursday evening, has confirmed subsequent rumours that they did not have to pay a penny to Real.

Limited playing time has sparked interest from across the continent

Bayern Munich have joined the list of teams that have enquired about the future of Real Madrid defender Eder Militao.

There have been no official bids made for Militao thus far, with the centre-back fourth choice behind Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane and Nacho.

The situation has led Bayern to explore the possibility of bringing in Militao to replace David Alaba, with the Austrian seemingly on the verge of agreeing terms with Madrid ahead of the expiration of his contract in the summer.

Man Utd urged to launch Fofana raid on Leicester


Manchester United should be considering a raid on Leicester for Wesley Fofana, says Paul Scholes, with the Red Devils legend admitting to still having a “worry” about Old Gunnar Solskjaer’s back four.

“As a back-four, I worry about how good they really are,” Scholes told ESPN ahead of United’s crunch clash with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

“If I was Ole and could sign a defender this month, I'd go for Wesley Fofana at Leicester. He's only 20, but he has been outstanding and he has the potential to be anything he wants to be."

Ajax boss responds to reported interest in Alderweireld


Ajax are not currently interested in signing Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham despite recent speculation, says manager Erik Ten Hag.

The 31-year-old began his playing career in Amsterdam and has recently been linked in Dutch media reports with a return to the Eredivisie, with PSV also said to be keen on a move for the Belgium international.

However Ten Hag, speaking after Ajax's 3-1 victory over FC Twente on Thursday, said that while the club still has close connections to Alderweireld through director of football Marc Overmars, there is no chance of a transfer this month.

The former Reds striker thinks defensive reinforcements are necessary this month

Liverpool must sign a new central defender in order to stay competitive in the Premier League title race this season, says Reds legend Robbie Fowler.

Speaking exclusively to Goal on whether Liverpool should enter the January transfer market, Fowler said: "I think, ideally, yes - because of injuries.

"Liverpool are in a great space and they are playing unbelievable football. Eventually, the results will be a little bit better. The championship is still Liverpool's to lose. They are the team to catch.

"Manchester City will run them close - but they probably need someone to come in. For a supporter point of you want your team to be the very best. Jurgen and his staff are certainly looking into it."

Schalke manager confirms interest in Huntelaar


Schalke manager Christian Gross has confirmed rumours that they are looking to bring striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar back to the club.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Gross said: "It is not yet fixed, but there is mutual interest. If a player with his aura, his personality and his qualities would come back to us again, it would of course be fantastic. He has now also shown that he still has qualifications."

The 37-year-old, currently with Ajax, has said he will retire at the end of the season but could have a final hurrah at Schalke as they aim to avoid relegation from Bundesliga.

Mesut Ozil's proposed move to Fenerbahce is not done and dusted, claims SportBild.

Negotiations regarding the cancelling of his contract at Arsenal remain ongoing, and if no agreement can be reached then he will see that deal out and become a free agent in the summer.

Sassuolo will be snubbing any bids for Manuel Locatelli, claims the Daily Mail.

Manchester City, Juventus and AC Milan are all said to be keeping a close eye on the midfielder with another window open.

‘Diego Costa would add character to Arsenal squad’


Diego Costa would add much-needed “character” to Arsenal’s squad if Mikel Arteta decided to make a move for the former Chelsea striker, says William Gallas, with a proven Spain international currently available as a free agent.

Gallas told PlayOJO: “If he comes to Arsenal, he will cause a lot of problems for defenders but it might also mean Alexandre Lacazette going on the bench again.”

RMC Sport reports that Bordeaux will sell Brazilian central defender Pablo to Lokomotiv Moscow for €2.5m.

The Ligue 1 side were reluctant to see the 29-year-old leave for free at the end of the season.
