Haaland could stay at Dortmund beyond 2021-2022 season but he will decide, insists Rose

Marco Rose has insisted that Erling Haaland could stay at Borussia Dortmund beyond the 2021-2022 season amid ongoing transfer rumours.

Haaland has emerged as one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe over the last two years, having burst onto the Champions League stage with Red Bull Salzburg before being snapped up by Dortmund in January 2020.

BVB have made it clear that the 21-year-old won't be sold this summer , but the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City are being tipped to launch big-money bids at the end of the current season.

Rose doesn't think it is a certainty that Haaland will leave Westfalenstadion next year, especially if Dortmund end up lifting some silverware between now and the end of the season.

"He still has a long-term contract with us. Just because the public is constantly talking about him leaving BVB next summer, that doesn't necessarily have to be the case," the Dortmund head coach said during an interview with  Sport Bild .

"In the end, Erling has to decide for himself where he sees his future. In any case, we are happy that he is currently playing for us - and, who knows, possibly it'll be even more than just one season if we write an extraordinary story here."

Will Haaland see out his contract at Dortmund?

Haaland committed to a four-year deal with Dortmund upon his arrival from Salzburg, and still has three years left to run on that agreement.

However, it has been reported that the contract includes a buy-out clause of €75 million (£64m/$87m), which is set to become active in the summer of 2022.

Sport1, meanwhile, reported on August 17 that Haaland's release clause could actually rise to as much as €90m, depending on the team's performance this season.

What's next for Haaland & BVB?

Haaland has hit five goals in his first three appearances in all competitions this term, taking his overall tally for Dortmund to 62. He did, however, draw a blank in their 3-1 DFL-Supercup defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

BVB supporters will hope he can get back on the scoresheet when they resume their latest Bundesliga campaign away at Freiburg on August 21.
