Villarreal v Real Sociedad Betting: Tight clash in prospect as the visitors look to defend

With the guests desperate to keep things tight and protect their first-leg lead, the value lies in a low-scoring game at the Estadio de la Ceramica

Manu Trigueros' goal 13 minutes from the end of last week's first leg means that this tie is still just about alive.

Villarreal left San Sebastian with a 3-1 defeat to overturn, but the away goal means they could go through with a 2-0 win, yet it remains to be seen how much the coach and his players believe in the possibility of a comeback.

That belief will be explicitly shown in the stength of the starting line-up that Fran Escriba names for the game, and in the first leg both coaches fielded practically first choice teams.

This weekend's La Liga action saw Villarreal come to within seconds of beating Barcelona only to draw 1-1, while La Real were thrashed 4-0 at home by Sevilla in a performance that was shockingly inept.

If the Basques defend as badly as they did on Saturday, there is every chance that they could be eliminated, despite their aggregate advantage, with La Real boss Eusebio surely set to approach the game defensively.

Paddy Power offer the visitors at 5/2 (3.50) to seal their passage to the last eight with a win, while the Yellow Submarine can be backed at 19/20 (1.95) and the draw is offered at 9/4 (3.25)

What was particularly surprising about the first leg was seeing Villarreal concede three goals, the first time they have let that many all season in any competition. The side from Castellon boast La Liga's meanest defence and they will be aware that they cannot afford to let their opponents net an away goal.

Under 2.5 goals is offered at 4/5 (1.80) and should be of interest, while opposing both to score at evens (2.00) is also worthy of consideration. Four out of Villarreal's last six home games have seen fewer than three goals scored, while six out of La Real's last 10 games on the road in La Liga have gone under 2.5 goals.
