'Arrogant Hodgson has treated England fans like dirt'

Roy Hodgson is ‘arrogant’ and has treated England fans like ‘a piece of dirt’, according to former West Ham striker Dean Ashton.

The 68-year-old stepped down as manager less than 30 minutes after England crashed out of Euro 2016 with a 2-1 defeat to Iceland.

Hodgson addressed the media once again on Tuesday but was visibly irked throughout his press conference, claiming that he had ‘no idea’ why he required a second press conference.

And Ashton, who was capped once by England, has slammed the former England boss for his conduct.

“The way Roy has handled himself since last night, I just find it disgusting,” Ashton told talkSPORT.

“I just cannot believe the arrogance of the man to come out and be the way he has been, in terms of saying ‘I don’t know why I’m here’.

“That’s just saying to all English football fans as if they’re just a piece of dirt and he doesn’t really care.”

“I’m just amazed as to how he’s handled that considering how many people have said what a proper bloke he is and a football person.

“To act the way he has done, that then makes you think about how he has been throughout the tournament.”
