VIDEO: Roma's Paulo Dybala & Claudio Ranieri lay flowers at Anfield in tribute to Diogo Jota ahead of Everton pre-season friendly

The football community continues to mourn the loss of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, with AS Roma's Paulo Dybala, accompanied by veteran manager Claudio Ranieri and sporting director Frederic Massara, arrived at Anfield to lay a bouquet of flowers at the growing memorial dedicated to Jota. The Portuguese international and his younger brother, André Silva, tragically lost their lives in a car accident in Spain in early July.

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The Serie A side are in Merseyside to play a pre-season friendly against Everton, and taking time out of their busy schedule, Dybala and Ranieri made their way to Anfield to pay their homage to Jota. Following the floral tribute, the group paused for a few minutes in silence, reflecting on Jota’s life and career.

    Liverpool permanently retired his No.20 shirt, a gesture reserved for those whose impact goes beyond statistics and silverware. Plans are also in motion to construct a dedicated memorial in his honour.

    WHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL?

    Jota’s name will be at the forefront of Liverpool’s return to competitive action. The Reds face Crystal Palace in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday, a match that will inevitably carry emotional weight for players and fans. Their first Premier League fixture, against Bournemouth on August 15, will include a series of tributes. Before kick-off, a minute’s silence will be observed for Jota and his brother. In addition, Anfield will unveil a special fan-created mosaic to celebrate his life and career.
