  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Wotton made reference to Rooney's remarks as he opened a piece on Birmingham's loss to Stoke, saying the player "admitted he would have sacked his entire team." However, he mispronounced the term "sacked," making it sound more like a vulgar sexual act than he had intended. The video of his gaffe quickly went viral on social media.

  • WHAT ROONEY SAID

"Ideally, you wish you could have 11 subs as I could have changed all 11 players at half-time," he said. "We just weren't doing the right things - the basics. It wasn't lack of effort, that would be unfair to say. It was lack of game knowledge. It's hard to put into words. I didn't see that performance coming. I didn't recognise the team out there on the pitch. It's frustrating because over the last few games we'd made some real strides, so this was difficult to take."

  • WHAT NEXT FOR BIRMINGHAM?

Rooney's job could very well be threatened as the Blues' downward spiral continues without any signs of an arrest coming soon. They will be in action soon when they take on promotion battlers Leeds United on New Year's Day.
