  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Al-Nassr’s pursuit of Fernandes appears to be fuelled by recently appointed head coach Jorge Jesus. The experienced tactician previously coached Fernandes during their shared time at Sporting CP and is now keen to reunite with his former player in Saudi Arabia. He is directly involved in discussions, underlining just how high Fernandes ranks on his wish list.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Club officials reportedly believe the presence of Ronaldo, Fernandes’ teammate in the Portugal national team, could prove pivotal in persuading him to make the switch. The two players share a strong rapport on and off the pitch and Al-Nassr hope this bond will help sway Fernandes in their favour.

  • WHAT FERNANDES SAID

Fernandes turned down a blockbuster proposal earlier this summer from Al-Hilal. That offer reportedly included a staggering contract worth £200 million across three years. However, his future remains the subject of speculation as the midfielder hinted that a departure could be on the cards in the summer.

"I will be here until the club tells me it is time to leave," Fernandes said. "I am available to make the club have great days again. The day the club thinks I am too much, or it is time to leave, football is like that and you never know. If the club thinks it is time to leave, because they want to make some money, that is what it is and football is like that sometimes."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Al-Nassr's ambition to build a star-studded squad was further highlighted earlier this week with the arrival of Joao Felix from Chelsea. They completed a £43.7 million (€50 million) deal to sign the 24-year-old forward, adding another Portugal international to their ranks.

    WHAT NEXT FOR FERNANDES?

Despite the noise surrounding his future, Fernandes is currently with the United squad in the United States, where they are wrapping up their pre-season tour. The Red Devils are set to face Everton in their final warm-up match this Sunday and Fernandes is expected to feature as part of Ruben Amorim's plans.
