Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney set Paul Mullin-related transfer challenge before January window swings shut on Wrexham

The Red Dragons are running out of time if they intend to further bolster their ranks before the latest deadline passes, with there only a matter of hours left in which to get business done. Phil Parkinson has already admitted that any late deals at this stage will be a “bonus”.

Wrexham are, however, riding high in the League Two table – with another promotion on the cards – and former frontman Andy Morrell has told BBC Radio Wales Sport of additions that he would like to see: “Whether it will take a couple of players to take them to that next level, but they're not a million miles away. I would go and get another striker to play alongside Mullin. It's difficult in January, it will take a bit of money, but if the owners want to go where they say they want to, maybe this is the time to go and strengthen.”

A 4-1 defeat to Blackburn in the FA Cup fourth round has helped to highlight how much work Wrexham need to do during their ascent up the English Football League, with Morrell adding on how a thrilling adventure under Hollywood co-owners could play out from here: “Blackburn was a stark reminder of where we want to be and how we have to be better to get there. But if you don't have dreams and hopes then you don't get 7,000 travelling to Blackburn. The owners have got huge aims, and it might take 10 years or might never happen. But look at Luton; they changed managers, players, favourites, but they got there. There's no reason it can't happen at this club with the owners they have and the finances they have got. And you just have to enjoy the ride because it is better than being at the bottom worrying about if the ground is going to be sold and who is going to pay the players.”

Reynolds and McElhenney have made no secret of their desire to push Wrexham towards the Premier League, but changes on and off the field will be required in order to make that possible and plenty of big decisions lie in store for two men that have allowed a loyal fan base in North Wales to start dreaming once more.
