Roma want Forbs in January: watched in person, he is the alternative to Endrick

Roma are still dreaming big ahead of the next winter transfer window. They continue to look for the attacking reinforcement Gian Piero Gasperini repeatedly called for in the summer but never really got.

Despite their long-running efforts to beat the fierce competition for Endrick, Roma are keeping another option open: Bruges winger Carlos Forbs.

  • Who is Forbs?

Born in 2004, the wide forward is a left-footed Portuguese player of Guinean descent. He came through the Sporting Lisbon youth system and soon moved into Manchester City's youth ranks before Ajax signed him for 14 million in 2023. He then returned to the Premier League on loan at Wolverhampton before Ajax sold him to Bruges in the summer of 2025.

He plays high on the right, but can cover the entire flank comfortably and could also play as a wing-back. He has already recorded 4 goals and 8 assists in the league and Champions League this season, including 3 assists at San Siro against Inter.

  • Watched in person

Gasperini would like a more out-and-out forward to play behind Malen and offer an alternative to Soulé, Mora and Dybala. But Forbs' versatility means he could also play as a wide midfielder when needed, giving Roma a much more attacking approach.

Keeping a close eye on Forbs, Roma watched him in person during his standout Champions League performance against Inter. He caused Dimarco and Inter's defence serious problems and provided 3 assists as Bruges scored 4 goals at San Siro.

  • Alternative to Endrick, but Bruges do not want loan deals

Roma's priority is to beat AC Milan and Aston Villa to Brazilian talent Endrick, but they risk falling behind financially even if Real Madrid are open to a loan. José Mourinho does not currently want to let him go.

As early as January, a move for Forbs could gather momentum, but sporting director D'Amico must contend with the Portuguese player's long-term contract, which runs until 30 June 2029. Bruges already value him above 15/20 million and won't consider loans, with or without pre-agreed purchase options.
