  • WHAT HAPPENED?

City need a point at Fulham on Sunday to guarantee a place in the top five and to ensure a poor league campaign does not end in disaster. And Guardiola claims he is not bothered how they achieve it, hinting at a change in approach to ensure his side get the result they need.

    WHAT GUARDIOLA SAID

Guardiola said: "The manager is good if you win - if you don’t then his decisions are wrong. Any plan when you win, that’s really, really, really good. We are judged for our results, not for the way we want to approach the game. If we have to play in a certain way to take a point then I will do it. If that means changing the principles, to sit back and wait for the transition, and play another way to take the point, then I will do it. I promise you I will do it."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Guardiola's words come after a week in which Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim was criticised for refusing to change his favoured 3-4-2-1 formation during United's Europa League final defeat to Tottenham. However, it is expected United will back their boss with signings and time as he aims to implement his style.

City travel to Fulham for that crucial game on Sunday, while United host Aston Villa in front of what will surely be a particularly disgruntled Old Trafford crowd.
