    WHAT HAPPENED?

With the game at 0-0, a defensive mishap from Arsenal allowed the ball to drop to Jarrod Bowen who squared to Tomas Soucek to put the Hammers 1-0 up. However, to most of the Emirates and many frustrated Arsenal fans across the world, the ball appeared to be out of play when Bowen crossed. Yet, a new video supposedly "proves" that the goal was right to stand.

  • WHAT ANDY GRAY SAID:

BeIN Sports presenter Andy Gray explained with a laugh: "We were able to put the ball to an absolute circle and make it exactly the right size it should be in the footage. And then it proved conclusively, conclusively, conclusively that that much [a few millimetres] was in!"

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Arsenal can be understandably frustrated at yet another close call going against them this season. In their defeat to Newcastle, Mikel Arteta bemoaned the decision to allow Anthony Gordon's goal with the ball also seemingly out of play in the build-up. However, whether beIN Sports' technology is correct or not, Arsenal's finishing on the night was simply not good enough to deserve anything from the game.

    WHAT NEXT FOR ARSENAL?

The Gunners travel to face Fulham on Sunday as they look to end 2023 on a high note. Arsenal currently sit fourth in the table but can enter the New Year as league leaders, even if temporarily, with victory at Craven Cottage.
