THE BIGGER PICTURE
Mallorca see a rare opportunity to bring back the player who began his career at the club. While a permanent move may be financially out of reach, options such as a loan or contract termination are being explored. However, the main obstacle remains Asensio’s high wages. As the window draws to a close, the decision now hinges on the player himself and whether he’s ready to relaunch his career at a lower mid-table club in Spain. Los Piratas, though, aren't the only Spanish side interest, with Villarreal also keeping tabs on the player.
Asensio doesn't have a lack of suitors. Indeed, along with La Liga clubs, Fenerbahce, and Aston Villa, there has been interest from Serie A, too. AC Milan and Inter are rumoured to be eyeing a move for the four-time Champions League winner. However, it remains to be seen where Asensio's future lies. The player is not tempted by a move to Turkey, while there's no guarantee that Mallorca and Villarreal have the finances in place for the operation.
