Manchester Utd Women not told about cancellation of end-of-season awards as men's team prepare for FA Cup final against Manchester City

United had decided to cancel the event, which was scheduled for May 20, in the lead-up to the FA Cup final on May 25. The club typically holds this event at Old Trafford, where accolades such as the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award and recognitions for breakthrough young talent are presented. The dinner is a significant occasion, attended by players from both the men’s and women’s teams, academy youngsters coaching and club stuff, supporters, and sponsors.

According to The Athletic, the women’s team only learned of the cancellation after the news broke in the media which has led to frustration among the squad. Many players had already adjusted their plans, including changing pre-arranged holiday flights and bookings, to attend the dinner after their season concludes this Saturday. The late notice of the cancellation left several players feeling disrespected and undervalued.

The senior women’s team lifted the FA Cup on Sunday, with Marc Skinner’s squad triumphing over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley. The awards dinner, initially planned for May 20, was intended to celebrate such achievements. Nonetheless, United have assured that players will still receive their awards based on votes from their peers, coaches, and fans as the club remains committed to recognizing the hard work and accomplishments of all its players.

The men's team still have two Premier League fixtures to deal with against Newcastle United and Brighton before they can shift focus on the Cup final against City. Meanwhile, Mary Earps and Co. will pull down the curtains on this campaign on Saturday with a final WSL fixture against Chelsea.
