  • Ten Hag under pressure at United
  • Red Devils enduring awful start
  • Zidane among options to replace him
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

United have suffered two straight heavy defeats in a row at Old Trafford, going down 3-0 to Manchester City in the Premier League and then losing to Newcastle by the same score in the Carabao Cup.

The coach's position is being questioned at the Red Devils and The Times reports the club are already considering options to take the Dutchman's place should they decide to sack him.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Former Real Madrid star and coach Zinedine Zidane is said to be among the options they are looking at, while Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim is also on their list.

However, the situation is made more complicated by the ongoing takeover process. Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS group are negotiating to purchase a 25 per cent stake in the club and assume control of sporting decisions, including managerial appointments.

  • WHAT THEY SAID

Despite his side losing back-to-back matches by three or more goals for the first time in 61 years, Ten Hag maintains he can turn the situation around.

He wrote in United Review this week: "While this has not been the start to the season that we had all hoped for, I am certain that we have the talent and attitude as a collective to move in the right direction. I believe that it is only a matter of time before we are showing our true selves. It will come, I am certain. I continue to believe in these players and am confident we will improve after a difficult start to the season."
