  • WHAT GUARDIOLA SAID

"So tight - we're not top of the league, Liverpool are better," Guardiola told the BBC. "We've had injuries and some problems, we won the titles, important ones, our level is really good I would say and we are there. Now rest, we all need it. January is less intense than November and December so we prepare for what's next."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

City are third after beating Sheffield United and are involved in a four-way title race involving leaders Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal. Liverpool are first with 42 points, the same as second-placed Villa, while City are third on 40 after 19 games. City have pipped Liverpool to the Premier League crown in enthralling title races in 2018-19 and 2021-22.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

City had not kept a clean sheet in their previous eight Premier League games before facing Sheffield United. The last time they had not conceded a goal was in the 3-0 win over Manchester United on October 29.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MAN CITY?

City will take a two-week break from the title race but face Huddersfield in the FA Cup on January 7. They then visit Newcastle on January 13 before having a two-week rest from action.
