  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Dortmund have intensified their efforts to sign Sunderland starlet Jobe, with club representatives reportedly flying to England this week for discussions. THE BIGGER PICTURE

While Dortmund appear to be leading the race, they are not the only German club interested in the 18-year-old. RB Leipzig are also reportedly monitoring the situation closely, setting the stage for a potential transfer battle that could become one of the headline sagas of the upcoming summer window.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Jude spent three successful seasons at the Westfalenstadion before sealing a blockbuster move to Real Madrid, and his time in Germany was seen as pivotal to his rapid development into one of Europe’s best midfielders. The German club’s familiarity with the Bellinghams could prove beneficial in convincing Jobe to follow a similar path.

  • WHAT DIETMAR HAMANN SAID

Former Germany international Dietmar Hamann has praised Jobe’s rise through the English football system, calling him a “determined and fearless” young player.

In his column for Sky Sports, Hamann wrote: "He's a very talented player who is in the playoffs for promotion to the Premier League with AFC Sunderland. The English second tier is one of the toughest leagues in Europe. Physicality is paramount in the Championship. It takes determination and character to make it there, and he achieved that as a young player. Once he's played there for two years and scored goals, nothing will scare him in the Bundesliga."

Hamann also noted Dortmund’s recent success with English talents, pointing to the likes of Jude, Jadon Sancho and Jamie Gittens as examples of players who thrived in Dortmund’s environment.

"BVB has had very positive experiences with Jude Bellingham, Sancho, and Gittens. Jobe Bellingham could help BVB with his qualities. Let's hope for Dortmund's sake that they get him," he wrote.

    WHAT NEXT?

While transfer speculation intensifies, Jobe remains focused on Sunderland’s crucial promotion campaign. The teenager is expected to feature prominently in their upcoming Championship play-off semi-final clash against Coventry City. The first leg takes place on Friday, with both clubs vying for a spot in the final at Wembley later this month.

Should Sunderland achieve promotion to the Premier League, it could complicate Dortmund’s bid. Playing in England’s top flight might offer a compelling reason for the young midfielder to stay with his current club, at least for another season.
