‘I thought it was a joke!’ - Mason Greenwood’s ‘unthinkable’ transfer to Getafe revealed as Man Utd loanee lauded for 'intelligence'

The disgraced former Manchester United forward — who left the club on loan in the summer having spent two years sidelined following charges for attempted rape and assault— has made an impact at his new club Getafe. A new interview with manager Jose Bordalas has provided some extra context about what Greenwood offers the club - as well as how surprised he was to get the move over the line.

In an interview with Spanish journalist Julio Maldonado, Getafe boss Bordalas said: "He's one hell of a player, a very intelligent player, very young. If that happened to another player I don't know if they would have played football again. He's been out for almost two years without playing and without training. We are very happy, it's unthinkable as you say. When they called me the first time and offered me the possibility, I didn't believe it. [I thought it was] a joke!

Getafe have made a decent start to the season; they're currently 8th in La Liga and are unbeaten since a 4-3 loss to Real Sociedad at the back end of September. It's thought that Greenwood's form since moving to Spain is causing two big La Liga sides to keep close tabs on his movements.

This weekend, Greenwood's club — which is situated on the outskirts of Madrid — faces a great opportunity to continue their strong start to the season with a trip to Gran Canaria-based Las Palmas, who are currently in 11th place. Greenwood will be looking to add to his tally of 2 goals and 3 assists from 10 games so far this campaign.
