Good news for Gio Reyna? USMNT star handed Borussia Dortmund lifeline as manager Edin Terzic - who he has fallen out of favor with - could be promoted to Sporting Director

According to BILD, the German club see Terzic's success over recent summer transfers as a potential way to integrate him into the club even further. Fullback Ramy Bensebaini, striker Niclas Fullkrug and midfielders Marcel Sabitzer and Felix Nmecha were all brought in under the Dortmund boss, and have successfully all worked their way into the starting XI. Now, Terzic is being looked at as a possible successor to their Sporting Director position.

Under Terzic in 2023/24, when available and healthy, Reyna has struggled to break into the Dortmund XI - or even into large cameo roles off the bench. In his last four matches, the USMNT midfielder has been an unused substitute twice, played eight minutes off the bench and then 45 minutes once as well. The German boss hasn't looked at the 21-year-old as a go-to option, despite positive form being shown on the international stage with the USMNT.

Reyna has made nine appearances for Dortmund this campaign, but has failed to find the back of the net or contribute an assist yet. Since 2019, he has 17 goals in 109 appearances for the club.

The club are back in action on Wednesday against PSG in the UEFA Champions League. The club have already confirmed their spot in the knockout stages of the tournament come the new year, but with a win against the Parisian side, they could shake up the standings - potentially allowing AC Milan and Christian Pulisic a path through to the next stage as well.
