Castro joined Al-Nassr in July 2023 and served as the club's manager for just over a year. In September 2024, the Saudi giants parted ways with the Portuguese coach and replaced him with former AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli. Under Castro's tutelage, Al-Nassr won the Arab Club Champions Cup but they finished second in the Saudi Pro League, 14 points behind champions Al-Hilal. They were also eliminated from the AFC Champions League at the quarter-final stage.

Five months after leaving the Middle Eastern club, Castro has opened up on the relationship he shared with star player Ronaldo as he labelled the Portugal legend a "sensitive person". Under Castro's tutelage, Ronaldo hit 50 goals in the 2023-24 campaign across all competitions.

Speaking to Al Eqtisadiah, the ex-Al-Nassr manager said when quizzed on his relationship with Ronaldo: "A wonderful relationship between two people who respect each other a lot and I really enjoyed working with him. He is a respectful, sensitive and determined person. The values of respect, courage and commitment always accompany him."
