'Only he will know' - Cristiano Ronaldo's team-mates in the dark on transfer plans as CR7 sees Club World Cup move from Al-Nassr mooted

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is running down his record-breaking contract at Al-Nassr. No fresh terms have been agreed there, although those in the Saudi Pro League are still hoping that the all-time great can be convinced to remain in the Middle East.

For now, Ronaldo is generating rumours regarding a move that would see him head to the United States this summer for the expanded global tournament that has been organised by FIFA. His eternal rival, Lionel Messi, will be at that event with MLS side Inter Miami.

Various landing spots for Ronaldo have been mooted, from Europe to South America, but the evergreen 40-year-old is giving little away when it comes to his future plans. Even those working alongside him are being left in the dark.

Portugal colleague Ruben Neves, who is on the books at Al-Hilal, told reporters when asked about the Club World Cup and Ronaldo's potential presence at that tournament: “The density of games has been increasing in recent years. It doesn't seem to be beneficial for the player, due to injuries, which are a consequence of the density of games.

“The Club World Cup has a new format. Regarding Cristiano Ronaldo, I can't answer that. I don't know what will happen. Only he will know. It's not up to me to answer that.”

Ronaldo continues to chase down 1,000 goals across his remarkable career, meaning that he will prolong his club career somewhere in 2025. In the present, he is focused on Portugal’s bid to claim a second UEFA Nations League crown - with a semi-final date with Germany set to be taken in on Wednesday.
