'Reminds me of Alexis Sanchez!' - Theo Walcott makes huge claim about £34m Arsenal debutant while issuing Arteta warning

  • Arsenal make flying start against Coventry

Arsenal made an excellent start to the new Premier League season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium. Goals from Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard sealed a comfortable win for the Gunners.

Summer arrival Tzolis made his official Premier League debut for the Gunners following his £34 million move from Club Brugge. The Greek winger delivered an energetic performance on the left flank that immediately captured the attention of supporters and pundits alike.

Tzolis demonstrated great confidence throughout his time on the pitch, constantly troubling the opposition defence. His impressive contribution ensured Mikel Arteta's side started their title defence in ideal fashion.

    Walcott likens Tzolis to Sanchez

Former Arsenal winger Walcott was particularly impressed by Tzolis' debut performance. Speaking on Premier League Productions, Walcott drew striking comparisons between the Greek international and former Gunners favourite Sanchez.

"I like him a lot, he reminds me of Alexi," Walcott admitted. "The reason why I say that, when he gets the ball his first touch is positive, his first thought is forward, attack the full-back. Alexi would always give the full-back a headache and even wearing the number 17 reminds he of him, I know he moved to the number seven when Tomas Rosicky moved on,

"However, there’s something about the way he moves with the ball, he glides on the field, they want to keep on giving it to him as well, I think you can see the confidence is growing and growing, he has go a bit more pace about him than [Leandro] Trossard does, so he’s a bit of a hybrid between Trossard and Alexis. But very impressed, when he gets fitter and players get to know his game a lot more, but I like what I see so far, really impressed."

  • Warning issued to substitute Eze

In contrast to Tzolis' starting role, Eze began the match on the bench. The attacking midfielder was introduced as a substitute with 14 minutes remaining, replacing Tzolis to see out the victory.

However, Walcott suggested that Arteta would be less than pleased with Eze's late speculative free-kick that sailed high over the bar. He explained that such minor details carry significant weight under the Arsenal manager's watchful eye.

"Eze having that shot at the end. I'm not sure he [Arteta] will be happy with that," Walcott warned. "I know it’s such a small thing but these are little details that he will look into each individual player if he’s going to be with them throughout the season, that’s just a sign to see."

Aston Villa test up next for the Gunners

With three points in the bag, Arteta's side now turn their attention to their next fixture. Arsenal will travel to Villa Park to face Aston Villa in their second league game on 31 August. Tzolis, meanwhile, will look to continue his fine form to help the Gunners secure their second league win of the season.
