Chelsea and Tottenham 'leading the race' to sign 19-year-old Rennes star 'on par with Ousmane Dembele and Eduardo Camavinga' as Ligue 1 outfit seek €60m fee

Per L’Équipe, the two Premier League clubs are leading the race to sign 19-year-old French midfielder Doue, although they face competition from European giants Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

The report claims that Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are also keen on adding the teenager to their squad and have placed an offer worth €35 million (£29m), which was rejected by the French side. Rennes, who sold Jeremy Doku to Manchester City last summer for €60m (£50m), are expecting to get a similar amount from the Doue deal.

The young midfielder is reportedly viewed by his club on the same level as their former prospects Eduardo Camavinga and Ousmane Dembele. "In Rennes, Desire Doue is regarded as one of the best prospects in a while, probably on par with Ousmane Dembele and Eduardo Camavinga," said Transfermarkt's French football expert Ronan Caroff.

Both Premier League clubs have begun their respective pre-seasons and are set to go abroad for friendly matches later this month. Ange Postecoglou's side will travel to the Far East, with matches in Japan and South Korea, while the Blues are set to visit the US.
