'I guess they are thorns that hurt!' - Carlo Ancelotti bites back at Diego Simeone as Real Madrid officiating row rumbles on

Real Madrid grabbed a sensational late win after their setback in the Supercopa de Espana final against Barcelona, as they thrashed Celta Vigo 5-2 in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey. There was a controversial moment during the build-up to Kylian Mbappe's opening goal as many believed Celta were robbed of a penalty the move before the deadlock was broken.

Atletico boss Simeone was not pleased with this decision and later told reporters: "I didn’t watch yesterday’s game. They told me episodes that happened as have been going on for a hundred years. I don’t know what surprises you."

Ancelotti has now hit back at the Argentine coach as he said: "These are things that are said for the gallery. The whole football world is aware of what Real Madrid represents in its 125 years of history. I guess they are thorns that hurt."

With Atletico and Barcelona dropping points this weekend, Los Blancos will aim to climb up to the top of the table as they take on Las Palmas in La Liga on Sunday.
