Brutal 'sitting in Marbella' barb aimed at Wayne Rooney after Plymouth sacking as Man Utd legend accused of not being 'committed to the lifestyle of a modern-day manager'

The Manchester United legend was sacked as manager of Plymouth at the end of December after overseeing a dismal run of nine matches without a win that had left the team at the bottom of the Championship table. Rooney was in charge of Plymouth for just seven months and his sacking has led to fresh questions about whether he has what it takes to enjoy a successful managerial career.

Rooney enjoyed a brilliant footballing career with Manchester United but has yet to impress in the dugout. He has had spells with Derby, D.C United and Birmingham but has failed to impress at all three clubs and it remains to be seen if he will try to continue a career in management. Meanwhile, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan feels that Rooney simply isn't suited to being a modern-day coach as he lacks the commitment required.

Jordan told talkSPORT: "I put the blame firmly in the boardroom. If I was going to make the appointment of Wayne Rooney, I would make sure that I had experienced, resourceful, underpinning staff behind him. But the point is I get to hear things about culture, and outlooks and dispositions and the way that people live their lives, and what they do when they’re sitting in Marbella and thing like that in nature. And none of these things strike a chord with me as someone that really is committed to the lifestyle of being a modern-day manager."

Rooney is likely to take some time out to consider his future and what his next move may be after leaving Plymouth. The former England star has also enjoyed plenty of media work since hanging up his boots and there's a sense he may be more suited to punditry than football management.
