  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Messi has always had the highest expectations placed on his shoulders since he grew to fame with Barcelona; however, the biggest pressure that he faced came on the international phase as he was expected to emulate the great Diego Maradona and lead Argentina to at least one World Cup. While his early career with La Albiceleste failed to bear any fruit, it was the latter part of his career that saw him truly rise into the 'throng of immortals' as once described by the great Peter Drury.

Pitt said: "Hey, he's amazing, man! I love him. As a tourist, I would jump in and see him. It took him a long time to perform in the great show (the World Cup). Then, the last one (he showed up). Oh did he, and I go, okay, I understand."
