'Unbelievable' Mourinho the right choice for Man Utd, says club legend Bruce amid quit talk

Jose Mourinho remains an “unbelievable manager” and the right choice to take Manchester United forward, says Steve Bruce.

The Portuguese has faced criticism at times this season for an apparent conservative approach to big games, while recent reports have suggested that he could quit his post in the summer.

Were he to do that, he would walk away just 12 months after securing three trophies in his debut campaign - with there still the potential for more silverware to come this term.

Bruce believes United would be making a mistake were they to let a proven performer move on, with Mourinho the best man to oversee future progress at Old Trafford.

The former Red Devils defender told talkSPORT: "I'm the biggest Jose Mourinho fan there is.

"What he has won, what he has achieved over the last 15 years - nobody will want him to leave Old Trafford I wouldn't have thought.

"He is the right man for the job. He gets harshly criticised.

"He is an unbelievable manager. How we can criticise him is quite unbelievable really.

"He won two trophies last year and if he stays in charge then Man United will get back to where they ought to be."

Mourinho saw United snap a four-game unbeaten run on Monday when they eased past Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park.

Having opened 2018 on a positive note, the challenge now is to kick on into the new year.

The Red Devils open their FA Cup campaign against Derby on Friday, preceding important Premier League fixtures in the fight for a top-four finish before tackling Sevilla in the last-16 of the Champions League.
