- Cameroon are making their 18th appearance in the tournament. They have won it four times (1984, 1988, 2000, 2002), only Egypt have been more successful (7 trophies).
- Meanwhile, Guinea-Bissau are the only team making their debut in the African Cup of Nations this year.
- Only two of the last eight teams to make their African Cup of Nations debut have progressed to the knockout stages (Equatorial Guinea in 2012, Cape Verde in 2013).

- Three of Cameroon’s last four goals in the African Cup of Nations have come from a set-piece situation whilst Guinea Bissau’s only goal to date in this tournament came from a free-kick.
- Benjamin Moukandjo has scored Cameroon’s last two goals in the African Cup of Nations; both coming in the first-half (vs Guinea in 2015 & Burkina Faso in 2017).
- Juary Soares’s 90th minute equaliser for Guinea-Bissau came from his only shot in the game against Gabon; the last two goals recorded by his country have come in the 90th minute (Toni Silva v Zambia, June 2016).
