The Portuguese is one of world football's renowned super-agents and he has string of high-class, high-profile players on his books

Jorge Mendes is the definition of a football super-agent. With Cristiano Ronaldo the jewel in a glittering crown brimming with high-quality gems, the Portuguese is responsible for a hatful of the world's best players.

Mendes has been involved in some of the biggest transfers in football history and appears to have a monopoly on the leading Portuguese talent.

Not only that, Mendes has also played an integral role in the success story at Wolves this season as the Molineux club have clinched a return to the Premier League, with the agent heavily involved in the team's transfer policy.

But who are the players whose football affairs are looked after by Mendes? Goal takes a look at Mendes's client list full of stars and picks out some of the best.

  1. #1 Cristiano Ronaldo | Real Madrid

One of the best players of all time is Mendes’s top client. Winning five Ballons d’Or, as well as being Forbes’s highest-paid athlete for the past two years, Ronaldo joined Madrid from Manchester United for a then world-record fee of £80 million and is on a reported £355,000 a week. Ronaldo is a dream client for any agent.
  2. #2 James Rodriguez | Bayern Munich (On loan from Real Madrid)

The top scorer at the 2014 World Cup, James Rodriguez is another client that any agent would love to have on their books. He completed two big-money moves in as many years, joining Monaco from Porto for a reported £45 million and a year later, on the back of an impressive World Cup campaign, joining Real Madrid for £65m. He is currently on a two-year loan at Bayern Munich who have an option to buy him for £43m after paying £13m for the loan.

  3. #3 Diego Costa | Atletico Madrid

Diego Costa’s transfer saga was another brilliant result for Jorge Mendes. Costa moved back to Atletico Madrid in January, three-and-a-half years after moving to Chelsea. Costa is another incredibly talented player, scoring 52 in 89 league appearances for Chelsea. However, a falling out with Antonio Conte meant that his days at Chelsea were numbered and he completed a £57 million return to Atletico Madrid in January 2018.

  4. #4 Radamel Falcao | Monaco

Radamel Falcao has had a rollercoaster past few years. Whilst at Atletico Madrid he was considered one of the best strikers in the world, but after a shock move to Monaco, a knee injury prevented him from going to the 2014 World Cup. Falcao then spent two seasons in England on loan at Manchester United and Chelsea, where he severely underperformed. But, upon his return to Monaco, the Colombian recaptured his form, scoring 54 in 75 games since coming back to Ligue 1.

  5. #5 Ederson | Manchester City

Manchester City and Brazil’s number one, Ederson has impressed during his debut season at the Etihad Stadium after signing from Benfica for €40 million. Ederson possesses incredible shot-stopping abilities, as well as being able to use the ball with his feet. He also boasts one of the longest kicks in football, highlighted during the Carabao Cup final when he assisted Sergio Aguero's goal from a goal kick.

  6. #6 Angel Di Maria | PSG

Angel Di Maria at one point was one of the best midfielders in the world. Named man of the match for his performance in the 2014 Champions League final for Real Madrid, Di Maria then moved to Manchester United for a British transfer record fee of £57 million. Unfortunately, Di Maria never settled in Manchester after a break-in attempt at his house unsettled the Argentine. He moved to PSG after only a season in England for a reported fee of £44 million. Moving for a combined £101m in two years makes Di Maria one of Mendes's most lucrative clients

  7. #7 Goncalo Guedes | Valencia (On loan from PSG)

Goncalo Guedes is a highly touted Portuguese winger currently playing for Valencia on loan from PSG. He signed for PSG for £25 million in 2017, but played only eight games before being sent out on loan to Valencia. The 21-year-old has had a decent time at Valencia so far, scoring four goals in 15 league appearances and is definitely one to look out for in the future.

  8. #8 Bernardo Silva | Manchester City

Bernardo Silva has enjoyed a promising debut season at Manchester City despite not being able to force his way into the starting XI on a consistent basis. Silva can play as either a midfielder or a winger and is supremely talented. The Portuguese star signed for City for £43.5 million from Monaco and, when he has played this season, he has been fantastic at times. However, with Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and David Silva occupying the positions he’d like to take up, it has been hard for him to consistently start at the Etihad.

  9. #9 Nicolas Otamendi | Manchester City

Another Manchester City player, Otamendi has improved greatly since he first came to England. Becoming City’s first-choice centre-back this year, he has been showing why the club paid £28.5 million to sign him from Valencia in 2015. One of Mendes’s less high-profile clients, Otamendi is a no-nonsense defender who has helped City to one of the best seasons in English football history.

  10. #10 Nelson Semedo | Barcelona

Signed by Barcelona last summer for a fee of £25 million, Nelson Semedo hasn’t had the most enjoyable first season at Camp Nou. Semedo almost started a fight with Neymar in his first month at the club, however, after the Brazilian's departure, the full-back started the season quite well, earning comparisons with Dani Alves after his first few games for the club. Unfortunately, his form dropped off and he found himself behind Sergi Roberto in the pecking order for the right-back spot.

  11. #11 Andre Silva | AC Milan

Since joining AC Milan for £33 million, Andre Silva has looked like two different players. In Serie A, he has only scored two goals in 21 appearances, not finding the back of the net until March in a 1-0 win against Genoa. But Silva has shown a lot of promise in the Europa League, scoring eight goals in 14 appearances so all hope is not lost for the Portuguese striker. In recent months, Silva has been linked with a transfer to Wolves, where Mendes has multiple clients playing as he has a close relationship with the Championship club's owners. A move to England could suit Silva as he is clearly talented after scoring goals in Europe, however, Italian football just doesn’t seem to suit the 22-year-old.

  12. #12 Renato Sanches | Swansea City (On loan from Bayern)

The 2016 European Golden Boy and European Championship's best young player has really declined since his 2016 move to Bayern Munich. Making 17 league appearances for Bayern Munich in his debut season, Sanches looked nothing like the player who was at the Euros just a few months prior. His move to Bayern was a transfer worth £30 million, potentially going up to £70m based on incentives. Unfortunately for Benfica and Jorge Mendes, after a failed loan move to Swansea, it doesn’t look like Sanches will earn a penny of those add-ons.

  13. #13 Eliaquim Mangala | Everton (On loan from Man City)

At one point, Mangala was the most expensive defender in the world after costing Manchester City £42 million from Porto in 2014. Mangala was less than impressive during his time at City with the flaws in his game being exposed on almost a weekly basis. Two loan spells in the last two years signify that his time at City is up. Mangala may be the best example of Jorge Mendes commanding an inflated transfer fee for one of his clients as he has struggled to justify City's hefty outlay.

  14. #14 Ruben Neves | Wolves

The biggest signing that Jorge Mendes was able to broker at Wolves. The Championship was shocked when Wolves signed Ruben Neves from Porto for £15 million in 2017. Neves had captained Porto in the Champions League at the age of 18 and was one of their prized assets. However, due to some financial trouble and Mendes having ties to Wolves, one of the most unlikely transfers of all time was able to be brokered and Neves has played an integral role in the club winning promotion to the Premier League.

  15. #15 Pepe | Besiktas

Former Real Madrid defender Pepe is currently plying his trade in Turkey for Besiktas after his contract expired at the Santiago Bernabeu. Pepe made over 300 appearances for Madrid during a 10-year stay in the Spanish capital. Despite coming towards the end of his career, Mendes still managed to get Pepe a move to Besiktas where he is earning a reported £80,000 a week.
