For the Detroit Lions, Week 1 didn’t go as planned, but there were silver linings. Defensively, they held the Packers’ ground game in check, giving up just 78 yards on 25 carries (3.1 YPC). In total, Green Bay mustered only 266 yards of offense, as the Lions’ defense stiffened in the second half.
The offensive line, however, was another story. With three new starters inside, protection broke down far too often. Jared Goff was under siege, pressured 19 times, sacked four times, and hit on nine occasions. The running game also faltered, managing a paltry 46 yards at 2.1 yards per carry, as the line struggled to open lanes.
One bright spot was Sam LaPorta. The third-year tight end was Goff’s most reliable option, hauling in six passes for 79 yards at 13.2 yards per catch.

The Lions' offense sputtered badly in Week 1, managing just 3.8 yards per snap — their lowest output since late 2020. On the other side, Chicago came out sharp, averaging 5.5 yards per play in the opening half (13th-best in the league), but slipped after the break, falling to 4.5 per snap (20th).
