    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs goalscoring record holder Collins Mbesuma has explained what Amakhosi's new striker Flavio Silva needs in order to be more lethal in front of goal.

Mbesuma, who holds the club's record for the most goals scored in all competitions in one season, has assessed Silva and pointed out areas he must work on to be a top striker.

    WHAT MBESUMA SAID

"The new striker has shown some good moments, but I want to see him make more runs into the box and spend more time there. He needs to be more forceful inside the box," Mbesuma told KickOff.

"During the match at Moses Mabhida (against Asante Kotoko), there were moments when he was making runs away from the box and towards the wings. With time, I believe he will get there," he added.

    WHAT IS MORE

The retired Zambian soccer star has also reminded the players to get accustomed to the pressure from fans because they are expected to win trophies.

"As a team, Kaizer Chiefs – especially the players playing up front – have a lot to improve on," he added.

"At a club like Chiefs, there is always pressure on the players. Fans come to the stadium to see goals, and the expectation is high. There’s always pressure because the culture of the team is to win trophies. This pressure will remain until the team starts winning trophies consistently."

"So, any new player must deliver immediately."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Last season, head coach Nasreddine Nabi pointed out that he lacked a lethal striker, and if he had one, Chiefs would have finished the season in the top three.

In the ongoing transfer window, the club's hierarchy brought on board Silva in an attempt to end the goal crisis at the Naturena club.

Even though they have signed Silva, Nabi recently hinted that one more striker could join before the transfer window ends.

The Glamour Boys have also been linked with Mamelodi Sundowns' Etiosa Ighodaro and with CR Belouizdad's Khanyisa Mayo.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SILVA?

After struggling to find a striker as lethal as Samir Nurković, Chiefs fans can just hope that, indeed, Silva will help their club solve the problem up front.

It is now a matter of waiting to see if Nabi is going to get an extra striker before the new season begins.

With the CAF Confederation Cup, the Premier Soccer League, and the Nedbank Cup campaigns all waiting for Amakhosi next season, Nabi hopes that his existing strikers – Silva, Glody Lilepo, and Tashreeq Morris – will deliver for him.
