    WHAT HAPPENED?

Nasreddine Nabi has claimed that if Kaizer Chiefs had a lethal striker, they would have finished in the third position in the Premier Soccer League.

Amakhosi finished the season in the ninth position and failed to achieve their top-eight dream following a goalless draw against Polokwane City.

    WHAT NABI SAID

“I think nobody can undermine what the team has done this season; they have won a cup after ten years without a trophy. I regret, we regret I’m not in the MTN8; it’s better I’m in the MTN, but don’t forget I’m in the process,” Nabi told the media.

“This is a transition season; I give more opportunity for a model game. I’m number two in the moments to score (chances created stats). The problem with efficiency is that once the striker scores. If we had this striker, maybe (I would have finished) number three this season. For that, I’m not dramatizing, it’s not good."

    WHAT IS MORE

The tactician said the PSL campaign this season does not make him happy, even though he managed to guide Chiefs to the Nedbank Cup.

“I’m not happy with how we finished (the season), but after the final—winning the cup, what I can talk about is that I’m happy we won the cup. For me, it’s a process. I don’t change every game,” Nabi added.

“We know now what the team needs. I think we’re in progress because I understand what the team needed exactly, but I regret we’re not in the MTN8, and I stopped like that. I don’t dramatize; we won the Nedbank Cup, and it’s a big step in the process,” Nabi explained.

“Every time the question is negative, I won the Nedbank (after ten years), and now (what about) MTN? No—because I understand all."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The striking department has indeed been a problem for Chiefs. Their lead striker, Glody Lilepo, just managed five goals in the league.

Tashreeq Morris has been used sparingly and has no goal for the club, and this points to just a big problem in the department.

Overall, Chiefs scored 25 goals in the season in PSL, meaning that if they want to improve, they must sign a lethal striker.

The striking department is an area that Amakhosi must address if they have to challenge for more titles next season.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

The Glamour Boys are expected to be very busy in the transfer window, and which players they will sign are expected to be ones that will come and add quality to the team.

Nabi's future is also uncertain, and whether he will be retained and lead the transfer business is a matter that is unknown for now.
